Takashiya

An immersive, sensory atmosphere defines Takashiya, where layered textures, dramatic lighting, and cultural references combine to create a dining experience rich in theatre and detail. The design balances intimacy and spectacle, unfolding through curated moments that celebrate craft, tradition, and contemporary expression.

The design weaves traditional Japanese references with contemporary hospitality detailing. A dramatic canopy of cherry blossoms forms a sculptural ceiling, contrasted by dark walls and controlled lighting that heighten intimacy. Timber joinery, slatted screens, and textured plaster introduce warmth and authenticity, while custom murals and illuminated shelving add vibrancy. The central communal table anchors the space, reinforcing social interaction within a theatrical setting.

T

he suspended blossom canopy creates a defining architectural gesture.

Cascading florals and softly glowing lanterns envelop the dining zone, filtering light and establishing an immersive atmosphere. Beneath, the circular communal table encourages shared dining, while the contrast between delicate pink tones and dark finishes heightens drama. This detail transforms the ceiling plane into a memorable focal point.

Takashiya is conceived as an immersive dining environment where atmosphere and detail work in harmony. Rather than relying solely on décor, the design layers materiality, lighting, and cultural reference to create depth and narrative. A dramatic canopy of cherry blossoms defines the interior, transforming the ceiling into a sculptural landscape that envelops guests upon entry.

Darkened walls and controlled lighting intensify the experience, allowing illuminated shelving, custom murals, and lantern accents to glow against the backdrop. Timber joinery and slatted screens introduce warmth and craftsmanship, grounding the theatrical elements in authenticity. The central communal table becomes both a spatial anchor and a social catalyst, reinforcing shared dining traditions.

The project succeeds through its careful balance of intimacy and spectacle. From engraved timber sake boxes to textured plaster walls and curated brand details, each element contributes to a cohesive identity. The result is a contemporary Japanese restaurant that feels layered, expressive, and distinctly memorable.
